Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is quarantining after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement by the State Department on Wednesday.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is quarantining after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement by the State Department on Wednesday.
Although Pompeo has tested negative for the virus, a medical team is continuing to monitor his status.
A statement by the State Department said:
“Secretary Pompeo has been identified as having come into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID… The Secretary has been tested and is negative. In accordance with CDC guidelines, he will be in quarantine. He is being closely monitored by the Department’s medical team.”
Pompeo was expected to attend a cabinet meeting on Wednesday and had also planned to meet with Joe Biden’s nominee who is to succeed him, Antony Blinken, on Thursday.
