Raffensperger Agrees to Signature Audit in Georgia’s Cobb County
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger ordered a signature audit of votes in Cobb County on Monday.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger ordered a signature audit of votes in Cobb County on Monday.
Raffensperger, who has repeatedly rebuffed efforts by President Trump to audit the signatures, has now ordered the audit over growing concerns that the signature matching process was not conducted properly within the county.
The signature audit could show whether signatures on absentee ballot envelopes match voter signatures kept on file.
“I feel we need to take steps to restore confidence in our elections,” Raffensperger was quoted saying at a press conference, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “Starting immediately, we are pulling all of our resources together with GBI to conduct a signature match audit in Cobb County.”
The AJC also reported that Raffensperger may expand the audit statewide, however he has prioritized Cobb County due to specific complaints.
The audit will be a massive effort that will include ballots from both the primary and general election.
The state has already conducted two statewide recounts, although signature matching was not a component in the process.
As of the most recent statewide recount, Trump trailed Joe Biden in Georgia by nearly 12,000 votes.
Also on Monday, the Electoral College cast their votes for Joe Biden for president.
As things stand now, it is of growing certainty that Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th president on January 20, 2021.
