DOJ Discussing Hunter Biden – Criminal Probe & Special Council Appointment

Officials in the U.S. Department of Justice are in talks over the appointment of a special counsel in the federal criminal investigation into Hunter Biden.

Officials in the U.S. Department of Justice are in talks over the appointment of a special counsel in the federal criminal investigation into Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden released a statement two weeks ago which acknowledged that he is under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware over “multiple financial issues” including money laundering and tax evasion concerning his business dealings in foreign countries, principally China.

Since that time, emerging evidence, allegations and details have compelled some officials to call for the assignment of a special council to lead the criminal investigation.

Attorney General William Barr had indicated that he was not considering an appointment to investigate Hunter Biden, saying that he had “not seen a reason” to appoint a special counsel to probe Joe Biden’s son. However, Wednesday was Barr’s last day as Attorney General following a resignation letter he presented to the President last week.

Moving forward, Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen will serve as Acting Attorney General.

Fox News is now reporting that “High level officials within the Justice Department are in ‘onging discussions’ on whether to appoint a special counsel to take over the investigation into Hunter Biden, with some believing it is ‘warranted.’

A source said that some DOJ officials believe the move is warranted, citing the special counsel statute: “It was passed to deal with a potential conflict of interest of the attorney general or the President of the United States A president-elect coming in, where his appointed attorneys will be investigating his son? That’s textbook conflict.

Republicans are demanding that a special counsel be appointed to continue the federal investigation into Hunter Biden, worried that an incoming Biden Administration will bury the case.

Just yesterday, Joe Biden raised alarms when he acknowledged that he continues to believe that the allegations against Hunter Biden are just part of a Russian disinformation campaign. He followed with a statement: “I promise you that my justice department will be totally on its own making its judgments on how they are to proceed.”
