Defense Secretary Orders Pentagon to HALT Biden Transition Briefings
Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller has ordered the Department of Defense to halt cooperation with Joe Biden's transition team.
Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller has ordered the Department of Defense to halt cooperation with Joe Biden’s transition team.
In a move that has shocked officials at the Defense Department, the Defense Secretary issued an order on Thursday night which instructs staff to cancel all planned transition meetings with Biden’s team, according to a breaking report by Axios.
A senior Pentagon official downplayed the magnitude of the order, telling Axios that it was issued because Pentagon staff “needed to do their day jobs.”
A top Biden official was unaware of the directive. Administration officials suggested a possibility that cooperation could resume after the holidays.
President Donald Trump had delayed the start of the transition for weeks prior to the Electoral College casting their vote, forcing officials in federal agencies to scramble to catch up on necessary meetings before a transition of power on January 20.
Shortly after the election, The Trump Administration gutted top Pentagon leadership, specifically the Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and his chief of staff. Trump also replaced top policy and intelligence positions.
