Toronto, the most populated city in Canada, will enter a 28-day lockdown this Monday according to Ontario Premier Doug Ford. The lockdown will close or limit businesses and ban indoor gatherings in an effort to slow a recent surge in coronavirus.

Indoor social events will be limited to only members of the same household while outdoor gathering will be limited to 10 people.

The lockdown will limit retail stores to curbside pickup only while restaurants and bars will be limited to take-out service. Grocery stores and pharmacies will be permitted to operate at 50% capacity. Wedding services, funerals, and religious ceremonies can be maintained indoors or outdoors however will be limited to no more than 10 people.

Schools will remain open.

Ford stated that “We cannot afford a province-wide lockdown, so we are taking preventative action today by moving Toronto and Peel into lockdown level restrictions,” he said. “We need to take decisive action to stop the spread of this deadly virus.”
