Republican House candidate David Valadao has defeated Congressman TJ Cox, flipping California’s 21st congressional district from blue to red, reports the Associated Press.

Republican House candidate David Valadao has defeated Congressman TJ Cox, flipping California’s 21st congressional district from blue to red, reports the Associated Press

Valdaao has now become the third Republican to flip a California congressional district in the 2020 election cycle. He joins Michelle Steel and Young Kim in flipping blue House seats in California red in the 2020 general election.

Valadao carried the district by a narrow 1% margin having drawn 84,480 votes to Cox’s 82,685 votes.

Congressman Cox had defeated Valadao two years prior by only 862 votes.
