PolitiFact Gets Fact-Checked by Candace Owens and Loses
The infamous fact-checker, PolitiFact, suffered a humiliating defeat after a run-in with conservative commentator Candace Owens.
The infamous fact-checker, PolitiFact, suffered a humiliating defeat after a run-in with conservative commentator Candace Owens.
Earlier this month, Owens had posted a video on Facebook offering commentary on the presidential election. She captioned the video: “Joe Biden is literally and legally not the President-elect. So why is the media pretending he is?”
Owens had argued that Joe Biden is not technically the president-elect. Although Biden is currently projected to be the winner of the 2020 presidential election, a president-elect will not officially be named until all states have officially certified their results and the Electoral College cast votes in December.
Soon after, her video received a “false” rating and people who shared the post were also alerted by Facebook that they had shared “false” content.
Tired of being censored on Social Media and Facebook by third-party fact-checkers, Owens announced that she was taking legal action against the fact-checkers and sued them for defamation.
“It is time to fact-check the fact-checkers,” Owens said. “I’m going to put these suckers through discovery and figure out what the relationship is that they have with Facebook.“
Owens received her first victory on Saturday when PolitiFact issued a correction and removed the false rating.
“Weeks ago, @Facebook censored a post of mine which truthfully stated that @JoeBiden is NOT the President-elect,” Owens wrote on Saturday. “So I got lawyers involved. Conclusion? @PolitiFact uncensored the post & admitted that they LIED by rating my post false. The fact-checkers are lying for Democrats.”
