Georgia Completes Election Recount: Biden Retains Lead
Election officials in Georgia have released a report of the results following the state's hand recount of the presidential election.
Election officials in Georgia have released a report of the results following the state’s hand recount of the presidential election. The results indicate that Joe Biden still holds the lead over President Donald Trump based upon new vote tally.
The Associated Press named Biden winner of the state soon after the results were published.
The Georgia recount concludes a hand-recount of approximately 5 million presidential ballots cast within the sate. The recount narrowed Biden’s lead in Georgia, but was not enough to swing the results in Trump’s favor. The recount resulted in a narrowing the margin of Biden’s lead from 14,000 votes, to just over 12,000 votes.
The hand recount was part of an audit that is required by a new state law that requires the audit be completed prior to the county results being certified by the state. The Georgia deadline for certification is Friday.
Because the results are within a 0.5% margin, President Trump can officially request a recount after the certification process is completed.
