A long legal saga ended on Wednesday when former national security adviser Michael Flynn was granted a full pardon by President Donald Trump.
“It is my Great Honor to announce that General Michael T. Flynn has been granted a Full Pardon,” the president tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “Congratulations to @GenFlynn and his wonderful family, I know you will now have a truly fantastic Thanksgiving!”
The White House released a statement following the announcement stating that Flynn “should never have been prosecuted” and that the pardon ends “the relentless, partisan pursuit of an innocent man.”
Flynn had pleaded guilty to charges of lying to the FBI. He later withdrew his guilty plea after attorney Sidney Powell produced evidence suggesting he was unfairly targeted.
The Department of Justice moved to dismiss the case, however the presiding Judge Emmet Sullivan has refused to comply with the motion.
